Here's a beautiful TIFFANY & CO. sterling silver marking pencil from early in the 20th Century.. called wax markers or grease pencils, or even Stockbroker's or Banker's pencils. In this case it is a fairly large pencil, 5-3/8" long with a huge diameter opening for the lead. (3/16" or well over 4 mm). The entire pen is sterling silver including the clip. The lead is advanced and retracted by tip twist action and it works perfectly. Marked TIFFANY & Co. STERLING on the tip. Of course it was made for Tiffany and by WILLIAM HICKS, with whom Tiffany had a long relationship. I have in fact found on line a nearly exact piece, marked HICKS and made for their own market. That pencil differs only in that it has a vermeil finish. On this Sterling pencil, there are a couple of truly minor dents on the barrel and one fairly significant dent at the top...pen was obviously dropped directly on the end. It has the characteristic humped clip seen on many Hicks products. The piece is lined on the full length of the barrel with tight line groups separated by very slender plain panels. The pencil works perfectly and has a fairly good length of the wax lead installed...at least 13/16." Oh... there is a full name monogram in a box at the center of the barrel.
