1965 ORIGINAL Large Newspaper Sports Art -John Pierotti, New York Mets, Baseball.
I’m guessing this original drawing is from around 1965. Casey Stengel was managing the newly formed Mets from 1962 until his retirement half way through the season in 1965. Their record for that 4 year period was terrible. Out of 579 games the Mets won 175 and lost 404. They came in last (10th) place every year. This is a great piece of baseball history which shows the Mets mascot sitting in Casey Stengels hat on the steps of the basement with the mascot saying “so what else is new “. The drawing is in rough shape with stains and bent corners. There is also a large crease in the bottom left corner. Even with all its imperfections it would still look good behind glass and framed. It is a large drawing measuring 14 by 19 inches. Also ver yellowed with age. It also looks like it has been glued to a backer board.
John Pierotti was a cartoonist that worked for the New York post and received multiple awards for his artwork.
