ALFRED HOWES Signed Pencil Drawing Skinned Cat Anatomy 1881 Boston California Click images to enlarge Description Alfred Howes , original pencil drawing of a large skinned cat on blue green paper, signed and dated July 5, '81 in the upper right corner, about 15 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches, in very good plus condition (the paper has been folded down the middle leaving a light crease). The drawing was likely created by Howes to understand the musculature and anatomy of cats. Alfred Howes was born around 1860 and raised in the Boston area, went to France to study art in the 1880s, returned to Boston to become a commercial designer and illustrator, and eventually retired near Redlands, California. This drawing was completed during his studies in Paris in 1881. I have attached a photo of a business card of Alfred Howes that he used around 1900. (The card is not being sold with the painting.) His address was 226 Tremont Street, Room 62, Boston, Massachusetts.
