The drawing is tacked to a sheet of brown paper and is in a 15 1/2 by 19 1/2 inch frame under Plexiglas. Gellert is a well listed American realist who often illustrated the working class in the tradition of the Ash Can school. He settled in California in 1931 so the drawing likely represents the Los Angeles urban community.
