Gary Ernest Smith "night" Pencil

From a Harold Bell Wright estate in Tucson is this original serigraph "Night" by Gary Ernest Smith,  a classic effort by this well regarded artist. The iconic depiction of contemporary cowboy was published in a hand pulled edition of 350 by the Gregory Editions print workshop in Houston. The offered artwork is pencil signed "Gary Ernest Smith" to lower right in the typical manner for this artist and print. There is a pencilled edition number "10/350" to lower left,  as proper - also the requisite and correct blind stamps for Somerset Publishing and Gregory Editions. Gary Ernest Smith (1942-) was born in Baker City, Oregon. He studied at Eastern Oregon College and Brigham Young University, where he earned an MFA. Smith is in love with the American West, a truth reflected over and over again in his artistic efforts. He counts the work of Maynard Dixon as a formative influence, and has been described as a regionalist in the manner of Thomas Hart Benton and Grant Wood. His West is often a place of awe inspiring landscapes, inhabited by humble folk who value hard work and honesty -  holding fast to disappearing way of life. Have a look at "Night" and see one of them. Condition is quite fine with a strong well inked impression printed to the sheet edges. Those edges are the original ones, with a deckle showing on all four sides. There is some normal ghosting of the ink showing to verso - a typical occurrence, obviously from the original printing and mentioned simply to be thorough. There is small area of very minor surface skinning from removal of an old mat hinge at upper right verso -  also a pale pin head sized paper mark of some sort I found under close inspection and and am bringing up simply so you won't. No tears or creases or any hidden restorations. Be aware I am trying to  nitpick for the obsessive here, and a look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Sheet size is about 16 3/4 in. vertical and 12 1/4 in. horizontal.
