Kreisler, Fritz. (1875–1962) Pencil and Ink Portrait Drawing Attractive original 1928 portrait of the great violinist in pencil and ink on textured illustration paper, probably created as an illustration for an article. Signed by the artist at the lower right: "Nahl [Neihl?]" Additionally signed at the left of the image: Margaret Tilly. Stamped with the date on the verso: October 21, 1928, presumably from a later publication. Heavy horizontal crease across the image; somewhat irregularly trimmed; some smudges and light soiling; overall very good. 10.5 x 10.75 inches (26.6 x 27.3 cm).
The circumstances of the signature of Margaret Tilly to this item are mysterious. A concert pianist and early music therapist, Tilly is now chiefly remembered for having convinced Carl Jung that ‘from now on music should be an essential part of every analysis’.
