ORIGINAL Newspaper Sports Art - 1955 BOSTON RED SOX SAMMY WHITE - Bill

One of a kind original newspaper illustration art featuring Red Sox player Sammy White.  Reverse is stamped "USED JULY 29 1955" as this was put into publication.  Bill Pevear was from the Boston area and worked as an illustrator for the Boston Garden as well as for the Christian Science Monitor.  The original owner of the estate from which this piece came also worked for the Monitor as a typesetter and printer and likely worked with Pevear. The last photo is a scan from page 11 of the sports section in the Christian Science Monitor from July 29th, 1955 where this appeared in print (it may have been syndicated in other papers as well) - the newspaper is not included in the sale and is included in the photos for provenance only. Good sized piece measuring about 11 1/4" by 13 1/4".  Ink, pencil and dot paper (attached on the uniforms of the smaller cartoon players) on what seems to be a synthetic medium, "GLARCO NO. 12" paper (this company appears to be defunct).  The paper is textured with small bumps that give it the classic newsprint dot pattern in some areas. Good condition - some discoloration as shown (photos are of the exact piece for sale) from age.  Wear to corners including crease on top left.  Small hole in the upper center, looks like from a tack.  Reverse has stamp from the newspaper indicating the piece's use in publication.  There is some remnant adhesive paper on the reverse that used to be an order slip used to move this from department to department (I have an intact one on a different piece from the same collection/artist).  This piece had a revision/correction; something was cut from the original and replaced with "Boston's" being taped on from the back.
