Richard Drayton defies understanding how his supreme talent transforms the blending of colored pencils into a piece that transforms it into a work of fine art realism that simulates the best of oil paintings. Richard earned his Fine Arts Degree from San Jose University, followed by two (2) years of postgraduate study at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He later returned to serve on the faculty there to teach , instrumental Graphic Design and Illustration. During the next 25 years, Richard’s career earned him over twenty-five national awards, including the prestigious Belding Award, & coveted First Award from The Art Directors Club of New York. He is an award-winning member of the National Watercolor Society and the Colored Pencil Society of America, as well as winner of the Top 100 Arts for Parks International Competition & innumerable other fine art competitions. Richard brings to his work a disciplined eye for detail & a brilliant sense of design & color. He perfected and fine-tuned these qualities during his years as a commercial artist and developed many special techniques that really sets him apart from all other colored pencil artists. Presently, he is an instrumental m ember of the faculty at the Sedona Arts Center where he teaches realism & timelessness beyond realism, incorporating 21st technologies to students, many of whom have gone on to be fine artists as well.
