They lay down a soft smooth line and you can change the thickness of the line depending on how you hold the pencil. NOTE that you'll need a special sharpener to keep it sharpened as the shape is oblong in lieu of cylindrical. I had feared I'd never be able to find them again so was quite pleased to find them here!
