Offered for your consideration is a vintage SKILCRAFT spiraling .046” (1.1mm) lead pencil, USA-made c.1980. For those unfamiliar with the brand, SKILCRAFT is the trade name for the National Industries for the Blind. It was founded in 1938, the same year Congress passed legislation directing the government to purchase blind worker-made products. This pencil bears a simple U.S. Government monogram, possibly from the Postal Service, or purchased at a military Post Exchange, etc. Please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this SKILCRAFT Government pencil should be yours. * Although the listing is written in singular to avoid any confusion, three (3) SKILCRAFT U.S. Government pencils are available at time of this listing revision. The U.S. Government imprint appears at different points on each barrel relative to the clip position, but they are otherwise identical. Please choose if you’d like to buy one or more in the quantity field at the top of the listing. No matter if you buy one or all that remain, the shipping cost will stay the same . This SKILCRAFT pencil is in clean, good condition. It measures 5⅜” long x 5/16” wide. The metal spiraling mechanism is covered by a translucent, smoky gray plastic barrel with steel clip, eraser ferrule, and writing cone. There are no chips or cracks, just the typical light scuffs and marks from use and desk storage with a hint of tarnish/oxidation on some of the metal. Plus, the U.S. Government lettering is well-pronounced with negligible lettering loss, if any at all, and the clip rests tight with no bend or gap. Overall, this pencil presents very nicely. Most importantly, the spiral mechanism reliably extends/retracts the large .046” leads with a turn of the eraser ferrule in the appropriate direction. Plus, the eraser is either unused or flipped to its good side, but is likely too stiff from age to be effective and should be replaced.
So, as pictured and described, this SKILCRAFT U.S. Government spiraling pencil is offered at a competitive price. *the above photo is presented only for reference; the pencils are being sold individually, as described Terms of Sale : I encourage interested parties to ask any questions they may have about this listing before committing to purchase.
